The Next President of Alabama State University

Joseph H. Silver Sr. has been selected as the 13th president of Alabama State University in Montgomery. He will take office on September 17.

Dr. Silver has been serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Clark Atlanta University. Previously, he was vice president of the Commission on Colleges for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. He has also served as vice president for academic affairs and professor of political science at Savannah State University. He also taught at Kennesaw State University in Georgia and was assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University System of Georgia.

Dr. Silver is a summa cum laude graduate of St. Augustine’s College. He holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. from Atlanta University.

  4. Indeed, I would like to congratulate Dr. Silver on his new position. You are walking in a strong historical tradition: The institution contributed to the Civil Rights Movement. In fact, it is the one institution whose students were apart of the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955. Many, many blessings!!!
