Southern University in Baton Rouge Dropping Two Degree Programs

Southern University, the historically Black educational institution in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has announced that it is eliminating two degree programs in an effort to cut costs. The university has been faced with declining enrollments and reduced aid from the state, forcing the institution to consider cuts to balance its budget.

The master’s degree program in mass communication is being eliminated. The choice was somewhat of an easy decision because the program was recently denied reaccreditation. The bachelor’s degree program in the same field is being retained.

The university is also dropping its doctoral program in physical education.
