Eight historically Black colleges and universities have signed an agreement with the China Education Association for International Exchange. The agreement calls for 1,000 scholarships for students at the HBCUs to study abroad in China.
“This collaboration between the Chinese government and HBCUs provides an excellent opportunity to enable our students to become competent in Chinese history and culture, and will significantly enhance their abilities to be successful global leaders throughout the world,” said Dr. David Wilson, president of Morgan State University in Baltimore.
The HBCUs participating in the initiative are Howard University, Morgan State University, Hampton University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Tougaloo College, Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Bowie State University.
