Atlanta University Center Library Earns a Prestigious Honor

r-w-woodriuffThe Robert W. Woodruff Library serves four historically Black member institutions that make up the Atlanta University Center: Spelman College, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, and the Interdenominational Theological Center.

The library recently was selected as the winner of the 2016 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award from the Association of College and Research Libraries. The Woodruff Library is the first institution serving a historically Black educational entity to win the award.

parham-lorettaLoretta Parham, director of the Robert W. Woodruff Library, stated that “this award is a stamp of recognition to the staff here and the programs we offer our students. This brings an immense endorsement to the level of education that is provided at the AUC, it proves that an HBCU can bring as much value, and expertise as a library at a predominantly white institution. And we do it with much fewer resources.”

Parham holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She earned a master’s degree in library science from the University of Michigan.
