Freeman Hrabowski to Receive American Council on Education’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Freeman A. Hrabowski III, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, will received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Council on Education. Dr. Hrabowski will be honored at the council’s annual convention in Washington later this month.

Dr. Hrabowski has served as president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County since 1992. Over the course of his career, President Hrabowski has been a strong advocate for increasing opportunities for African American students in STEM disciplines. His most recent book is Holding Fast to Dreams: Empowering Youth From the Civil Rights Crusade to STEM Achievement (Beacon Press, 2015).

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, President Hrabowski is a graduate of Hampton University in Virginia, where he majored in mathematics. He holds a master’s degree in mathematics and a doctoral degree in higher education administration from the University of Illinois.
