Michael Bailey Will Be the First Black President of the American Veterinary Medical Association

Michael Bailey has been selected as the first-ever Black president-elect of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He will serve as the association’s president-elect for the 2024-2025 academic year, and will assume the  presidency of the association in July 2025.

For the past eight years, Dr. Bailey has served as a leader for IDEXX, a Michigan-based biotechnology research company specializing in pet healthcare. He joined the organization in 2016 as an assistant director, and has since progressed to his current role as medical director. He is a board-certified veterinary radiologist and has held several industry roles across Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Dr. Bailey also has a background in veterinary education. Earlier in his career, he held veterinary faculty roles with Michigan State University, Ohio State University, and historically Black Tuskegee University in Alabama.

Dr. Bailey holds a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Rutgers University in New Jersey and a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Tuskegee University.
