In Memoriam: Monica Vance, 1975-2024

Monica Vance, director of student disability services at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, passed away on July 25. She was 49 years old.

Vance began her career as a teacher in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Her first role in higher education administration was within the assessment center at the Community College of Philadelphia. She then went on to serve as associate director of student accommodations for the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia for seven years.

In 2018, Vance joined the Swarthmore College community to oversee the student disability services department. In this role, she focused on enhancing DEI initiatives, improving student accessibility services, and advocating for disability rights.

Vance was a magna cum laude graduate of West Chester University in Pennsylvania, where she majored in education. She received a master’s degree in higher education from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
