Six Black Professionals Appointed to New Roles in Higher Education

Alyse Jordan has been appointed executive director of library services and university librarian for the Cunningham Memorial Library at Indiana State University. She has decades of experience in library and research positions within higher education. Most recently, she served as head of the research, engagement, and learning department at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.

Dr. Jordan is a three-time graduate of Florida State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in political science, master’s degree in library and information studies, and master’s degree in religion. She holds a doctorate in organizational leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.

Mary Muchane has been named the inaugural assistant provost for faculty development at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She has an extensive background in faculty support, including her current role as the assistant dean for research development and director of sponsored programs at Davidson College in North Carolina.

Dr. Muchane holds a Ph.D. in geological sciences from Duke University in North Carolina.

Pamela Baldwin has been promoted to serve as the inaugural vice chancellor for strategic enrollment and student success at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. She most recently served as the assistant vice chancellor for student success and enrollment management. Earlier in her tenure with the university, she served as the associate dean of academic partnerships.

Dr. Baldwin is a graduate of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where she majored in biology. She holds a master’s degree in administration and supervision and a doctorate in education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Bobby A. Brown has been promoted from acting chief to permanent chief of police and executive director of emergency management in the department of public safety at Texas Southern University. He has two decades of experience in public safety at educational institutions.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Chief Brown also has 13 years of experience in the United States Army Reserve.

Tangelia Kelly has been named chief communications officer and executive director of university communications for Jackson State University in Mississippi. She has held the position in the interim for the past three months. Prior to her interim promotion, she served as director of marketing in university communications.

Dr. Kelly is a graduate of Jackson State University, where she majored in marketing. She received an MBA from Belhaven University in Mississippi and returned to Jackson State University to earn her Ph.D. in educational administration and supervision.

Aaron Dixon has been named executive director of the freshman academy at Alabama A&M University. He comes to his new role from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he held several roles in student affairs including advisor for campus events, program coordinator for multicultural affairs, and director of the success academy.

Dixon holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Alabama A&M University and a master’s degree in college student personnel from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in leadership and decision-making from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga.
