Four Black Administrators Who Have Been Appointed to New Roles at HBCUs

Letherio Zeigler has been appointed executive director of financial aid services and scholarships at Jackson State University in Mississippi. With over three decades of experience in financial aid administration, he has held several leadership roles with institutions across the Southern United States, including Fisk University in Nashville, Nashville State Community College, and Mississippi Valley State University.

Ziegler received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Southern Illinois University and his master’s degree in sociology from Lincoln University. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership from Clark Atlanta University.

Rachel James-Terry has been named senior director of strategic communications at Florida A&M University. She comes to her new role from Jackson State University in Mississippi, where she was director of public relations for nine years. She also served as editor-in-chief of The Jacksonian, the university’s alumni publication.

James-Terry received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in English from Jackson State University.

Kevin Nesfield has been promoted from interim athletic director to athletic director at Florida Memorial University. Prior to his interim appointment in October, he served for three years as the university’s senior associate athletics director for student success and compliance. Earlier in his career, he was the associate athletic director for compliance at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Nesfield received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Shawn Thierry has been appointed executive director for policy and counsel at Texas Southern University. She has extensive experience in Texas state government. Currently, she serves on the Texas Juvenile Justice Board. Earlier in her career, she represented Houston’s District 146 in the Texas House of Representatives for four terms.

Thierry received her bachelor’s degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and her law degree from Texas Southern University.
