A Trio of Black Women Have Been Selected for New Faculty Positions

Tisha Greene has been promoted to associate dean of undergraduate education and teacher preparation in the Cato College of Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. A clinical associate professor in educational leadership, she most recently served the university as assistant dean for school and community partnerships.

Dr. Green received her bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in English education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Wingate University in North Carolina.

Jacqueline Najuma Stewart has been named the Edward Carson Waller Distinguished Service Professor in the department of cinema and media studies at the University of Chicago. Professor Stewart is the author and editor of several influential books, including: Migrating to the Movies: Cinema and Black Urban Modernity (University of California Press, 2005).

Dr. Stewart is a graduate of Stanford University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Chicago.

Talitha Washington has been named the Sean McCleese Endowed Chair in Computer Science, Race, and Social Justice and executive director of the Center for Applied Data Science and Analytics at historically Black Howard University in Washington, D.C. She most recently served as the inaugural director of the Atlanta University Center Data Science Initiative. She is the current president of the Association for Women in Mathematics and director of the United States National Science Foundation’s National Data Science Alliance.

Dr. Washington is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, where she majored in mathematics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Connecticut.
