Higher Education Gifts or Grants of Interest to African Americans

Here is this week’s news of grants or gifts to historically Black colleges and universities or for programs of particular interest to African Americans in higher education.

Stillman College, a historically Black educational institution in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, has received a $1 million gift from Google to support cybersecurity initiatives and establish a scholarship for students studying in the college’s Cybersecurity Clinic. The scholarship will be named after the late Dr. Kevin Lamar Harris, executive director of the clinic, who passed away on October 5 at the age of 50.

Tuskegee University, a historically Black educational institution in Alabama, has been awarded a $1.5 million gift from an anonymous donor to support the university’s athletic and student services departments. The donation will be used to enhance the university’s athletics, band, and student government experiences.

The College of Public Service at historically Black Tennessee State University has been awarded a $1 million grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development to establish the Center of Excellence – Urban and Community Research Center. The university’s new research hub will focus on improving affordable housing and promoting urban development in the local Nashville community.
