In Memoriam: JMal Stewart, 1974-2025

JMal Stewart, senior strategic talent acquisition and recruitment manager in the advancement division at Virginia Tech, passed away unexpectedly on February 10. He was 50 years old.

Stewart joined the Virginia Tech staff in 2014. In his role, he focused on recruiting talent for the university’s fundraising, engagement, communications, and marketing teams. He worked in human resources for over 25 years, including past positions with Walden University and the Laureate Higher Education Group.

Stewart received his bachelor’s degree in business administration and human resources from Walden University.
