Two Black Men Selected for Academic Appointments at Universities

Christopher Small has been promoted from interim director to permanent director of Florida State University Schools, a K-12 charter and laboratory school at Florida State University that provides faculty the opportunity to conduct educational research. Prior to joining the Florida State University faculty, Dr. Small held several administrative roles with local elementary schools.

Dr. Small is a graduate of Baylor University, where he majored in political science and government. He holds a master’s degree in public administration and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and administration.

Dwight A. McBride has been named the inaugural Gerald Early Distinguished Professor of African & African American Studies in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. A faculty member with the university since 2023, he also serves as a senior advisor to the chancellor and executive director of the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Equity.

Dr. McBride is a graduate of Princeton University, where he majored in English with a concentration in African American studies. He holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles.
