North Carolina Central University Launches PULSE Apple Initiative for Nursing Students

The department of nursing at historically Black North Carolina Central University has recently launched the Promoting Unity in Learning, Systems, and Education (PULSE) Apple Initiative.

Funded by the University of North Carolina System’s Workforce Expansion Grant, the initiative will provide all admitted nursing students with an iPad to support their classroom learning, homework assignments, laboratory activities, and clinical practice. Students will keep their tablets after graduation, reinforcing their professional development as they enter the workforce. Nursing faculty at the HBCU will also receive iPads to facilitate interactive instruction, increase student engagement, and promote a collaborative learning environment.

“Nurses are at the forefront of healthcare, and it is essential that we equip our students with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world,” said Dr. Yolanda VanRiel, chair of the NCCU nursing department. “The PULSE initiative is not only about enhancing classroom learning but also empowering our students to develop critical skills they will need in their careers, especially as healthcare becomes more technology driven.”
