Four Black Administrators Selected for New Roles at HBCUs

LaShannon Spencer has been appointed as vice president of governmental affairs at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. She comes to her new role from the American Hospital Association, where she was a regional executive. Earlier, she was chief executive officer of the Community Health Centers of Arkansas.

Dr. Spencer is a graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She holds a master of public administration degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, and a Ph.D. in leadership from the University of Central Arkansas.

A. L. Fleming has been appointed vice president of advancement and alumni affairs at Tuskegee University. Prior to his new position, he was senior director of development for the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has held similar roles with Albany State University, South Carolina State University, and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

Dr. Fleming received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina, a master’s degree in educational management from Strayer University, and a doctorate in education from National University.

Virginia Teachey has been named vice chancellor for business and finance and chief financial officer at North Carolina A&T State University. She comes to NCA&T from Pennsylvania State University, where she was associate vice president for budget and finance. Earlier in her career, she was vice chancellor for business and administration at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Teachey holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Northwood University in Michigan and an MBA from Anderson University in Indiana.

Elvin Parker has been selected to serve as interim vice president of finance, administrative services, and operations and chief financial officer at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. His appointment marks a return to the HBCU, where he previously served in several financial leadership positions from 1998 to 2008. Most recently, he was chief financial officer for the Madison Parish School District in Louisiana.

Parker is a two-time graduate of Alcorn State University, where he earned his bachelor of business administration degree in accounting and his master’s degree in education.
