Hampton University School of Pharmacy Establishes New Partnership with Ugandan University

The School of Pharmacy at historically Black Hampton University in Virginia has created a new partnership with Makerere University School of Pharmacy in Uganda to strengthen both institution’s pharmaceutical education, research, and healthcare initiatives.

Established by Dr. Elizabeth Heard, assistant professor at Hampton University, the partnership currently consists of interactive learning sessions, including a recent virtual workshop with students and faculty from both pharmacy schools. Going forward Hampton University and Markerere University plan to collaborate on curriculum development, student engagement, and clinical training programs.

Dr. Heard plans to launch a five-week international clinical rotation in Uganda for Hampton University pharmacy students during their fourth year. Additionally, the partnering institutions are currently working on a virtual research conference for students at both institutions to attend in the near future.

“Engaging with students and faculty in Uganda has reinforced the importance of shared knowledge and innovative solutions in addressing critical health challenges,” said Dr. Heard. “Hampton is positioning itself for impactful research and clinical training that’ll benefit communities worldwide.”
