Four Black Americans Appointed to Leadership Roles at HBCUs

Robert Pompey has been appointed chief financial officer and senior vice president for business and finance at Hampton University in Virginia. He comes to his new role from another HBCU, North Carolina A&T State University, where he was vice chancellor for business and finance for nearly two decades.

Pompey received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from North Carolina A&T State University and his MBA from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Lanisa S. Kitchiner has been named the inaugural associate vice president for global and diaspora engagement at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Her appointment marks a return to the HBCU, where she previously was an associate director of the Ralph Bunche International Affairs Center. More recently, she served as director of the Center for African Studies at Harvard University.

Dr. Kitchiner is a two-time alumna of Howard University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in English and Ph.D. in African studies with an emphasis on art, history, and culture.

Willie Jude II has been appointed vice president for institutional advancement at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. With two decades of experience in development and advancement, he most recently served as executive director of the Milwaukee Public Schools Foundation. He previously held leadership roles with Lincoln University of Missouri, Fisk University in Nashville, and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Jude holds a master’s degree in higher education from Washington State University.

Ronald M Howell, Jr. has been appointed associate dean and associate research director in the College of Agriculture at Virginia State University. Earlier in his career, he worked for the HBCU as director of operations and management for the College of Agriculture. He returns to Virginia State after serving as the state executive director of the Virginia Farm Service Agency and senior policy advisor for the USDA-FSA.

Howell is a graduate of Virginia State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in agriculture. He holds a master’s degree in agricultural and extension education from Virginia Tech and a doctorate in education and community leadership from Murray State University in Kentucky.
