Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU), one of four historically Black medical schools in the United States, has signed a new memorandum of understanding with Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC) that will create new academic opportunities for students and strengthen the healthcare workforce in the Los Angeles region.
Beginning in Fall 2025, CDU will conduct quarterly information sessions at LAMC and collaborate on faculty and staff exchanges and events on both campuses over the next five years. Students who complete an associate’s degree at LAMC and meet prerequisite criteria will be guaranteed admission to CDU. To further support these students, CDU will provide a $1,500 annual scholarship to each LAMC transfer student who enrolls full-time.
“This partnership reflects CDU’s deep commitment to nurturing diverse talent and improving access to healthcare education,” said Jose Torres-Ruiz, CDU provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. “By creating clear academic pathways from Mission College to CDU, we are investing in student success and building a future workforce that reflects the communities we serve.”
