Three Black Administrators Selected for New Roles at Universities

Jan Alexia Boulware has been appointed associate provost and associate vice president for academic affairs at Savannah State University in Georgia. With 15 years of experience in higher education administration, Dr. Boulware has a background in academic innovation, fiscal stewardship, faculty development, curriculum reform, accreditation leadership, and student affairs. Most recently, she was dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Dr. Boulware holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Georgia Southern University, a master’s degree in reading education from Mercer University in Georgia, and a doctorate in English from Clark Atlanta University.

Kareem Easley has been named chief of police at Tuskegee University in Alabama. He brings more than 20 years of law enforcement experience to his new role. Previously, he held several leadership roles with the Birmingham Police Department. Earlier, he had stints with the Alabama Board of Pardons and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Easley earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Alabama.

Derek Fuller has been named chief of police and associate vice president at the University of Oklahoma. Most recently, he served as chief of public safety and associate vice chancellor at the Alamo Colleges District Police Department in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to that role, he spent 25 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, including service as chief of the FBI Police Department in Washington, D.C. and as an assistant special agent-in-charge.

Fuller holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a master’s degree in public safety and criminal justice from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
