Higher Education Gifts or Grants of Interest to African Americans

Here is this week’s news of grants or gifts to historically Black colleges and universities or for programs of particular interest to African Americans in higher education.

Jackson State University in Mississippi has received a four-year, $500,000 donation from FedEx to support the HBCU’s College of Business. The new funds will go toward student support services, faculty development and research, and initiatives within the college’s Supply Chain Management Center and Data Analytics Lab.

Historically Black North Carolina Central University received a $70,000 grant from the North Carolina Collaboratory to evaluate the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, North Carolina. For this project, a research team from NCCU will assess the school’s governance, administrative, and educational structures to identify opportunities for strengthening the school’s programming and operations.

Howard University in Washington, D.C., received a $1.95 million unrestricted gift from Autodesk to support the development of a construction engineering and management program in the HBCU’s College of Engineering and Architecture. The program will help prepare students to lead complex construction projects across the entire project lifecycle, combining engineering expertise, design thinking, and digital construction skills.
