Wiley University Approved to Launch Its First Doctoral Degree Program

Historically Black Wiley University in Marshall, Texas, has been approved to offer its first doctoral degree: an executive Ph.D. in business administration.

Designed for working professionals, the doctorate aims to prepare executive leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, administrators, and scholars to conduct original research, solve complex organizational challenges, and create meaningful impact across business, industry, education, faith-based organizations, and community-centered institutions. Participating students can choose to focus on one of three concentrations in data science, artificial intelligence, and business innovation; entrepreneurship; or faith-based administration. The program will be offered in a 24-month online/hybrid format, which includes in-person intensive residences.

In a letter to the campus community, Wiley University President Herman J. Felton, Jr. wrote, “One hundred fifty-three years ago, our founders planted a college for the formerly enslaved in the piney woods of East Texas. They dreamed of literacy. Today, their dream confers doctorates.”

Applications for the program’s inaugural Spring 2027 cohort are now open.
