The Honda USA Foundation has established the Drive the Legacy Fund, a new $10 million endowment dedicated to improving institutional capacity and infrastructure at historically Black colleges and universities.
“The Drive the Legacy Fund enhances the nearly 40-year commitment of Honda to creating lasting impact and ensuring educational opportunities for HBCU students,” said Marcos Frommer, executive director of the Honda USA Foundation. “By investing in the foundational needs of HBCUs, we can help these institutions strengthen their operations, modernize critical infrastructure and position themselves for sustained success for generations to come.”
Through this new initiative, Honda will provide HBCUs with institutional grants that aim to address persistent challenges such as chronic underfunding and capital investment gaps, aging physical infrastructure, digital and technology infrastructure deficits, and faculty recruitment and retention challenges. These grants are expected to range from $100,000 to $250,000 annually, with awards available for up to two years to support transformational projects that strengthen institutional operations.
Launching in May 2027, the Drive the Legacy Fund will initially focus on accredited four-year HBCUs located within states where Honda has major operations and a strong community presence.
