The Board of Regents at Morgan State University has approved plans to build a new student-housing option on campus. The historically Black university will partner with the Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) to carry out the construction.
MEDC has a proven track record of successfully partnering with other Maryland-based institutions such as Bowie State University, the University of Maryland, Frostburg State University, Towson University, and the University of Maryland Baltimore County. The corporation will oversee third-party management to carry out the day-to-day operations of the construction, while closely working with university leaders to ensure project success.
The new student housing facility will add between 700 and 900 beds to accommodate the university’s growing student body. It will be located on Morgan’s South Campus, adjacent to the site of the Thurgood Marshall Apartment Complex. Once construction is complete, the Thurgood Marshall complex will be demolished and converted into a green space for the campus community to enjoy.
“Morgan is growing, and with the continued increase of new enrollment coupled with the university’s high retention rate, the need for more student housing on campus has never been greater,” said David Wilson, president of Morgan State University. “The board’s recognition of the challenges the university faces in meeting the needs of our students, and their support to take bold action now, will benefit scores of future scholars seeking a complete college experience in a contemporary campus environment and choose to pursue their educational aspirations at Morgan.”
The new facility is expected to be completed for the fall of 2020.
Are you kidding me! Morgan State University under the aloof, dismissive, and failed “misleader” Dr. David Wilson for his utter failure to PROTECT Morgan State University students “on/near campus”. Morgan State University has consistently failed to provide the Appropriate security measures to PROTECT students from physical assaults, Armed robbery, and even murder within the past 4-5 years. For those who dissent, I would suggest that you conduct your own research. Dr. Wilson and the Campus Police Chief should both be IMMEDIATELY fired for Security and Administrative malfeasance.
