Tennessee State University Opens New Greenhouse Complex

Tennessee State University in Nashville recently opened its new $800,000 greenhouse complex on campus. The teaching and research facility, operated by the TSU College of Agriculture, Human, and Natural Sciences, includes six greenhouses with 18,000 square feet of space.

A computerized control system monitors and regulates temperature, humidity, and light intensity, providing optimal conditions for plant growth. The greenhouses use passive cooling, shade systems, and a weather station that will regulate heating and cooling depending on the season.

  1. I hope the center is named after one of our plant science teachers, Mr. McAlpin.

I was not a plant science student, but knew the importance of growing plants in close quarters like a dorm room for the oxygen.

He supplied plants for a lot of students, and taught us the importance of growing them in our rooms.

I am almost 80 years old now and in fairly good health.
