Ron R. Walcott to Lead Academic Affairs at the University of Georgia

Ron R. Walcott has been selected to serve as interim senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Georgia. He began his new responsibilities on August 1.

For the past six years, Dr. Walcott has been the university’s vice provost for graduate education and dean of the Graduate School. A faculty member with the university’s department of plant pathology since 1999, he previously served as interim dean and associate dean of the Graduate School and as assistant dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Dr. Walcott also served on the 2026–2031 Strategic Planning Committee and currently serves on the UGA Athletics Association Board of Directors. His scientific research centers on pathogens that affect commercially important vegetable crops.

“I am grateful to President [Jere W.] Morehead for this appointment and for placing his confidence in me to help advance the academic enterprise at the University of Georgia,” said Dr. Walcott. “I am committed to serving UGA to the very best of my ability during this interim appointment and expanding the positive impact we make in the lives of our students and across communities.”

Dr. Walcott received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in plant pathology from Iowa State University. He earned his doctorate in the same discipline from the University of Georgia.
