New Administrative Roles for Five African Americans at Colleges and Universities

P. Brandon Johnson is the new associate dean in the Office of Undergraduate Education at the University of Texas at Dallas. He previously served as director of the Center for Academic Achievement at Florida Gulf Coast University.

Johnson is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication. He holds a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of Georgia and his Ph.D. in higher education studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Iika McCarter has been named interim director of the Office of Admissions at the Mississippi Unversity for Women. McCarter has served as assistant director of admissions since October 2006.

McCarter is a 1995 graduate of the Mississippi University for Women, where she majored in business administration.

Darryl Jones is the new associate vice president for academic affairs at Hudson County Community College in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was vice president of the York Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College in Pennsylvania. Earlier, he was associate vice president of academic affairs at the College of New Rochelle in New York.

Dr. Jones holds a master’s degree in counseling and student development psychology from Howard University in Washington, D.C. He earned a Ph.D. in higher education from the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati.

Romona West was appointed director of diversity and inclusion for the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas. She was the assistant director of graduate recruitment and outreach for the college.

West holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a law degree from the University of Arkansas.

Brice Yates was named assistant vice president for equity at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Since October 2018, he has been serving as interim associate vice president for inclusive excellence at Indiana State University. Earlier, he was the director of the Charles E. Brown African American Cultural Center at Indiana State University.

Yates holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a master’s degree in communication from Morehead State University in Kentucky. He is completing work on a doctorate in higher education and leadership from Indiana State University.
