Four African Americans Who Have Been Appointed to New Administrative Posts at Universities

DeLaine Priest was promoted to associate vice provost for student success and advising at the University of Central Florida. She was associate vice president for student success. Dr. Priest joined the staff at the university in 1994.

Dr. Priest obtained her undergraduate degree in business administration and a master’s degree in counselor education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She earned a doctorate in organizational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

Linda Gunn-Jones was appointed interim director of Title III Services at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was a mental health administrator for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Gunn-Jones is a graduate of North Carolina Central University, where she majored in psychology. She earned a master of social work degree at the University of Michigan and a doctorate in social work from Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Joseph Montgomery is the inaugural vice president of enrollment management and student success at Tuskegee University in Alabama. For the past six years, Montgomery has served as director of higher education services for the College Board.

Montgomery holds a bachelor’s degree from Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina, and a master’s degree from North Carolina A&T University.

Qiana M. Watson was appointed associate vice president of labor and compliance at Montclair State University in New Jersey. She was deputy legal counsel and labor relations director at York College of the City University of New York.

Watson is a graduate of St. Joseph’s College in New York and the Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia.
