New Center on Racial Healing to Be Established at the University of Arkansas

The University of Arkansas has announced that it is establishing a Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Campus Center. The center will focus on creating transformative and sustainable change in areas relating to diversity and inclusion.

The Campus Center will host programs focused on creating awareness about the effects of racism on individuals and communities as well as provide support for diversity professionals who work to create diverse, equitable and inclusive spaces. The Campus Center initiative is built around a framework of five pillars – narrative change, racial healing and relationship building, separation, law, and economy – aimed at preparing a new generation of leaders to confront racism and promote equity.

Yvette Murphy-Erby, professor of social work and vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion at the University of Arkansas said that  “our university is uniquely positioned to enact meaningful change through impactful programming that heals and unifies our communities as we work to build a more diverse, inclusive and equitable community and state.”

Professor Murphy-Erby is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She holds a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Murphy joined the faculty at the university in 2011.

  1. Here’s another example of another PWI trying to make it facially appears as if it’s trying to make true substantive changes at the University of Arkansas (Arkansas) via the new Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Campus Center. Arkansas should be embarrassed with the abysmal 1,202 “African American” students enrolled. Yet, these higher education charlatans can use ambiguous statistics to paint this “diverse and inclusive” narrative which is far from true. For those who dissent, I challenge you to ask any “native born Black American” (not African immigrant either) about the daily implicit and explicit racism they endure at Arkansas. By the way, the Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Campus Center is literally saying the historical and current conditions at Arkansas is akin to “Apartheid South Africa”.
