Howard University Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Stepping Down

James A. Donaldson has announced that he will step down as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He will give up his administrative duties but will continue on at Howard as a professor of mathematics. “I look forward to devoting my remaining years at Howard to all things mathematical, including research, teaching, and service,” Donaldson said.

Dr. Donaldson has been on the Howard faculty for 40 years, serving 12 years as dean. He previously served for 17 years as chair of the mathematics department.

Dr. Donaldson earned his bachelor’s degree  in mathematics from Lincoln University of Pennsylvania in 1961. He holds master’s and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

  1. Dr. Donaldson, you don’t know me but you do know my (late) sister, Lesie McKnight Yates. Congratulations! From what my sister told me of you years ago, you are mathematican to the core!!! It is always good, sometimes to get away from, and then to return to that which is “dear to heart.” Stay blessed.
