Alcorn State University, the historically Black educational institution in Mississippi, has partnered with the Children’s Defense Fund to offer a Freedom School for 50 students this summer. Students from southwestern Mississippi will come to the Alcorn campus for a summer enrichment program that will focus on reading skills, learning attitudes, and boosting self-esteem.
M. Christopher Brown II, president of Alcorn State University, stated, “The Alcorn Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School will enrich the lives of students living near us. While providing them with skills that will help improve their academic performance, this experience will further expose them to the importance of higher education and help them envision themselves earning college degrees.”
