Willie Smith Appointed Chancellor of Baton Rouge Community College in Louisiana

The Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors has chosen Willie Smith as chancellor of Baton Rouge Community College in Louisiana. He has led the college on an interim basis for the past 10 months.

“I am excited for this opportunity to continue to lead BRCC,” Dr. Smith said. “I also want to thank all of our faculty, staff, students, and community partners who have supported me during my interim tenure. I am committed to the work we have begun to make BRCC a great place to work and learn. Looking forward, BRCC will continue to be a leader in providing innovative solutions that will support the needs of all our constituents.”

Baton Rouge Community College enrolls more than 8,200 students according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. African Americans make up 47 percent of the student body.

Dr. Smith has worked in the Louisiana Community & Technical College System and its colleges for the past 19 years. Before serving as interim chancellor at BRCC, he served as vice president for training and business partnerships at the college. Earlier, he was CEO for South Central Louisiana Technical College and vice president of academics and workforce solutions at South Louisiana Community College.

Dr. Smith is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans. He holds a master of public administration degree from Troy University in Alabama and a doctorate in educational leadership from Argosy University.
