The board of trustees of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District in California has selected Lloyd A. Holmes as president of De Anza College in Cupertino, California. When he takes office on July 1, Dr. Holmes will be the fourth president in the college’s 53-year history.
De Anza College enrolls nearly 20,000 students, according to the latest statistics supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. African Americans make up just 3 percent of the student body.
“I am honored to have been selected as the president of De Anza College,” Dr. Holmes said. “I have come to know De Anza as one of the leading community colleges in the nation. Together, we will do even greater things to positively impact our students, faculty, staff, and community.
In 2014, Dr. Holmes was named vice president for student services at Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York. Earlier, he was dean of students at North Shore Community College in Massachusetts.
Dr. Holmes holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a master’s degree in student personnel services, and a doctoral degree in educational leadership, all from the University of Mississippi.
