Nanotechnology Scholar Named Provost at the University of Illinois

Ilesanmi Adesida was appointed provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Illinois. His appointment is effective on August 16. Dr. Adesida is a respected scholar in the field of nanotechnolgy and has been serving as dean of the university’s College of Engineering and as the Donald Biggar Willett Professor of Engineering.

In accepting the appointment, Adesida said, “I’m honored and humbled to be selected as provost of this great campus. I know how to work very hard and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get the job done.”

A native of Nigeria, Dr. Adesida, holds bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering, all from the University of California at Berkeley. Before joining the faculty at the University of Illinois in 1987, he taught at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Nigeria and Cornell University.
