Livingston Alexander Given Authority Over a Second Campus of the University of Pittsburgh

Livingston Alexander has been president of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford since 2003. Now in a reorganization, Dr. Livingston will also preside over the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville. William Shields, who has served as president of the Titusville campus since 2005, was reassigned as an associate vice provost at the University of Pittsburgh.

The Bradford campus has about 1,600 students, whereas the Titusville campus enrolls approximately 500 students.

All major administrative functions for the two campuses will now be conducted at the Bradford campus. “The realignment of administrative functions is a first step to reduce costs of operation and assess the viability of the Titusville campus in a time of dramatically reduced state support,” said Patricia E. Beeson, provost and senior vice chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh.

Before being named president of the Bradford campus, Dr. Alexander was provost, vice president for academic affairs, and professor of psychology at Kean University in Union, New Jersey. Earlier in his career he held faculty posts at Western Kentucky University, Troy State University in Alabama, and Georgia Southern University.

A native of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, President Alexander is a graduate of St. Joseph’s Seminary College in Washington, D.C. He holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Houston.
