School of Education at the University of Wisconsin Adds Five Black Scholars to Its Faculty

The School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has hired 16 new faculty members. Five of the new faculty members are African Americans.

Kevin Lawrence Henry, Jr. is a new assistant professor in the department of educational leadership and policy analysis. He was an assistant professor of educational policy studies and practice, and a founding member of and policy fellow in the Education Policy Center, at the University of Arizona.

Dr. Henry is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Anjalé Welton is a professor in the department of educational leadership and policy analysis. Since 2011, she has served on the faculty at the University of Illinois. Her research examines how school leaders’ dialogue about equity issues such as race, student voice in school improvement efforts, and the politics of college readiness and access.

Dr. Welton earned a Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin.

Hailey Love is a new assistant professor in the department of rehabilitation psychology and special education. Dr. Love joins the School of Education after serving since 2018 as an assistant professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Dr. Love earned a Ph.D. in special education from the University of Kansas.

Ashley White was hired as an assistant professor in the department of rehabilitation psychology and special education. She has been serving as the 2019-20 Joseph P. Kennedy Public Policy Fellow with the House Committee on Education and Labor.

Dr. White earned a doctorate at the University of South Florida.

Baron Kelly was appointed professor in the department of theatre and drama. He was head of acting and director of graduate studies at the University of Louisville.

Professor Kelly holds a master of fine arts degree in acting from California State University, Long Beach. He earned a Ph.D. in theatre research at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
