New Endowed Chair on Sexuality and Religion Established at Morehouse School of Medicine

The Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta has announced that it has secured funding for an endowed chair on sexuality and religion and is beginning a national search to find the inaugural holder of the position. The chair is thought to be the only professorial post on sexuality and religion at a U.S. medical school.

The Marta S. Weeks and David E. Richards Endowed Chair in Sexuality and Religion will develop innovative health and pastoral services as well as curricula, research, and public leadership related to issues that bridge the topics of sexuality, religion, and medicine.

Rev. Marta S. Weeks is an ordained priest in the Episcopal Church and a major benefactor of the Morehouse School of Medicine’s Center for Sexuality and Religion. The Rt. Rev. David Richards is a retired Episcopal bishop who founded the center in 1989 to advocate for helping clergy with sexuality issues and training.
