Kemba Chambers was appointed acting president of Trenholm State Community College in Montgomery, Alabama. The college enrolls just over 2,000 students, according to the most recent data available from the U.S. Department of Education. African Americans make up 71 percent of the student body.
Dr. Chambers has been serving as the interim associate vice chancellor of teaching and learning and chief instructional officer at the Alabama Community College System in addition to her role as executive vice president and vice president of instructional services at Trenholm State. During her 21 year career in higher education, she has been interim president at Coastal Alabama Community College in Bay Minette and J. F. Drake State Community College in Huntsville.
“Dr. Chambers is a proven leader who has served Trenholm State well as executive vice president over the past 4 years,” said Jimmy Baker, chancellor of the Alabama Community College System. “Her proven leadership across multiple higher education institutions and her familiarity with the faculty, staff, students, and administration at Trenholm State makes her a perfect choice to lead the college at this time.”
Dr. Chambers earned an associate’s degree from Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, Alabama, and a bachelor of science in secondary mathematics education from Columbus State University in Georgia. She holds a master’s degree in secondary mathematics education from Troy University in Alabama and a doctorate in higher education administration from Auburn University in Alabama.
