A Quartet of Black Scholars Who Have Taken on New Assignments at Colleges and Universities

Marc E. Morris, a professor of accountancy at Southern Illinois University Carbondale has been given the added duties of interim associate provost for academic administration. Dr. Morris joined the faculty at the university in 2004 as an instructor and was promoted to full professor this year. He has been director of the School of Accountancy since 2019.

Dr. Morris earned a bachelor’s degree in university studies with an emphasis on business administration; an MBA, and a doctorate in accounting, all from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Traci Griffith was named an associate professor of communications at Simmons University in Boston. Professor Griffith comes to Simmons after serving nineteen years on the faculty at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. She is a former correspondent and national editor for the Associated Press.

Griffith is a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago, where she majored in political science. She earned a master’s degree in journalism at Florida A&M University and a juris doctorate from the University of Notre Dame.

Tryan L. McMickens was appointed associate professor of higher education and program coordinator for the master’s degree program in higher education administration at North Carolina Central University. For the past 10 years, he has served on the faculty at Suffolk University in Boston.

Dr. McMickens holds a bachelor’s degree in sales and marketing and business administration from Tuskegee University in Alabama. He earned a master’s degree in administration of higher education from Suffolk University and a doctorate in higher education from the University of Pennsylvania.

Scorpio Rogers, an assistant professor in the School of Business and executive director of the Incubation Center at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York, was named interim vice president of MercyManhattan, the New York City campus of the college. He joined the Mercy College faculty in 2017.

Rogers is a graduate of Dartmouth College and holds an MBA from Columbia University. He is a Ph.D. candidate in business administration at the University of Denver.
