HBCU Choir Sets Schedule and Names Conductors

The 105 Voices of History National Choir is made up of one student from each of 105 historically Black colleges and universities. The choir held its first concert in 2008 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

This coming academic year the choir will perform three major concerts. Two of the concerts will be in Washington, D.C., and one will be at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

Dr. Carney

Horace Carney, chair of the department of fine arts at Alabama A&M University is this year’s chair of the national conducting team. Three other musicians have been selected to be national conductors of the choir:

W. Cortez Castilla is the director of choral activities at Jackson State University in Mississippi.

A. Jan Taylor is conductor of the University Concert Chorale at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

Travis W. Alexander is the director of the University Choir at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.
