Brandon Gamble, the Charles Bell Faculty Scholar at San Diego State University, has been appointed director of the Black Resource Center at the university. The center was established in 2018 to promote Black student excellence through intentional programs, events, mentoring, and other forms of support.
Before coming to San Diego State University in 2021, Dr. Gamble was a faculty member and dean of student success at Oakwood University in Alabama. Earlier, he was the school psychology program coordinator and instructor at California State University, Long Beach. His research centers on developing programs that improve student outcomes, including those focused on the promotion of college-access and high quality of mental health services.
“Writing and presenting professionally about what is right with Black people has been the focus of my scholarship,” Dr. Gamble said. “The late Dr. Sharon Grant Henry, who was a chair of counseling and school psychology when I was a student at San Diego State University, inspired me to think critically and act decisively as an advocate for Black students and families. She saw things in me that helped chart the course of my career and I have sought to pay it forward with my work.”
Dr. Gamble earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Oakwood University. He went on to receive a master’s degree in counseling, with a specialization in school psychology, from San Diego State University and a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Southern California.
So proud and grateful for the impact you are having, and have had on students lives and their success not only academically, but in their personal lives as well.
