Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, has selected Anthony Ponder as its next provost. Dr. Ponder will assume his new duties on February 1.
Sinclair Community College enrolls nearly 19,000 students, according to the most recent statistics available from the U.S. Department of Education. African Americans make up 14 percent of the student body.
Dr. Ponder has been serving as dean of the Science, Mathematics & Engineering Division at the college. He first started working at the college in 1991 as an instructor in the mathematics department. He earned tenure in 1996 and was promoted to the rank of full professor in 2005. In 2007, Dr. Ponder was appointed to the position of chair of the mathematics department and since August 2012, he has served in his current position as dean.
“It is an incredible honor to serve as provost for Sinclair Community College and build upon the institution’s legacy of success and academic excellence,” said Dr. Ponder. “I look forward to advancing our strategic priorities of alignment, growth, and equity to ensure students, faculty, and staff achieve their educational and professional goals.”
Dr. Ponder holds a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University, a master’s degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and a doctorate in community college leadership from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan.
