Jomo Mutegi Selected to Lead the National Association for Research in Science Technology

Jomo W. Mutegi, an associate professor of science education at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, has been elected president of the National Association for Research in Science Technology (NARST). Founded in 1928, NARST is a worldwide organization for improving science teaching and learning through research. It is the most prominent international association of science education researchers in the world. Dr. Mutegi has been a member of NARST since 1995.

“I appreciate the opportunity to serve the association in any capacity and I am honored that my colleagues have entrusted me with this responsibility,” Dr.Mutegi said. “NARST has enriched my life in many ways over the years. It has been – and continues to be – an extremely rich and rewarding academic space.”

Dr. Mutegi joined the faculty at Old Dominion University in the fall of 2021. Previously, he was an associate professor at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. There, he was the director of the Urban Center for the Advancement of STEM Education. Early in his career, Dr. Muego taught at Morgan State University in Baltimore.

Dr. Mutegi is a graduate of Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he majored in chemistry and biology. He holds a Ph.D. from Florida State University.
