The U.S. Department of Education has announced grants totaling nearly $228 million that will be awarded to 97 historically Black colleges and universities. The five-year, Strengthening Historically Black College and Universities grants will be used for improving the physical plant at these institutions, strengthening their curriculum and academic resources, or to build endowments.
“HBCUs have made enduring, even staggering contributions to American life despite the steep financial challenges many have faced,” U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said. “The grants will help these important institutions continue to provide their students with the quality education they need to compete in the global economy.”

This is a good thing, but I hope none of us believe it coincidence this was done on the eve of the election. Obama gave us nothing for almost 4 years, in fact took money away, but now he and Duncan are heroes. Thanks, but we won’t forget what we’ve been thru Santa.
Agreed….what took so long?
Praise God from whom all Blessings flow. FAMU, ’86
I am personally thankful for this income to these institutions. In light of the difficulties of these times, money given to anyone for a good cause is appreciated by me. I also, think that elements of these institutions are appreciative of this gift. Could President Obama given more? I wonder for you angryblackman, if President Obama was white, would you refer to him as Obama or President Obama. Probably when you think of the Bush(es) it is (Bushes) squared….mathematically speaking. Thank you for your time and energy in this matter. Respectfully yours, Richard Earl Jenkins, Jr.
