New Administrative Duties for Eight African Americans at Colleges and Universities

Stephan T. Moore was appointed vice president of enrollment management and student affairs at Coppin State University in Baltimore. He is the former dean of students and interim vice provost for access and enrollment service at the University of the Virgin Islands.

Dr. Moore is a graduate of Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina, where he majored in family studies. He holds a master’s degree in education from Argosy University and a doctorate in education from Georgia Southern University, a master’s degree in education from Argosy University, and a bachelor’s degree in family studies from Campbell University.

Veronica L. Sills has been named associate vice chancellor for human resources/chief human resources officer at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She has been serving in the position on an interim basis since November. She previously was assistant vice chancellor of human resources.

Dr. Sills received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from The College of New Jersey. She holds a master’s degree in criminal justice and a master of public administration degree from Rutgers University, a master’s degree in higher education administration and organizational management from Drexel University in Philadelphia, and a doctorate in higher education leadership from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Greg Hinton was named chief financial officer and vice president of administrative services at Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York. He previously served as vice president of finance and operations at Edmonds/North Seattle College in Washington.

Hinton earned bachelor’s degrees in business economics and public policy from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He holds an MBA and a master’s degree in human resources development from Webster University n Missouri and is enrolled in the higher education leadership doctoral program at the University of Texas at Austin.

Sharon Beasley was appointed director of nursing education at the University of the District of Columbia. She has been serving as director of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, based in Atlanta.

Dr. Beasley earned a master’s degree in nursing administration from Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia. She holds a Ph.D. in education from the University of South Carolina.

Kendria Mason has been named the coordinator of First-Year Experiences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She was a coordinator and advisor for the department of housing and residence life at the University of South Carolina.

Mason is a graduate of Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina, where she majored in educational studies. She earned a master’s degree in higher education student affairs from the University of South Carolina.

Michael Grant is the new vice president and athletic director at Talladega College in Alabama. He previously served as the associate director of athletics at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Earlier, he was a basketball coach at several historically Black colleges and universities.

Grant is a graduate of Malone Univerity in Canton, Ohio.

Janette Yarwood was named director for Africa and the Middle East in the Office of International Affairs at Yale University. Prior to joining Yale, she held several roles in Washington D.C. working on U.S. policy toward Africa. Most recently, Dr. Yarwood was senior advisor to the assistant secretary of African affairs at the U.S. Department of State.

Dr. Yarwood is a graduate of Purchase College of the State University of New York System. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Randal V. Childs has been hired as the vice president for advancement at Rockford Univerity in Illinois, effective August 15. Childs served at North Carolina Central University for 17 years as its director of major gifts, assistant vice chancellor, and most recently its associate vice chancellor.

A native of Greenwood, South Carolina, Childs received a bachelor’s degree in computer science at Morehouse College in Atlanta. He earned an MBA in marketing at Elon University in North Carolina.
