Shaw University Names a New Vice President for Institutional Advancement

Evelyn Leathers is the new vice president for institutional advancement at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was vice president for institutional advancement at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. Previously, she was director of foundation relations and private grants at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Leathers holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in adult education from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. She also pursued doctoral studies in higher education administration at Virginia Tech.

In Memoriam: William Strickland, 1937-2024

Strickland spent his lifetime dedicated to advancing civil rights and Black political representation. For four decades, he served as a professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he taught courses on Black history and the civil rights movement.
