Carla Phillips Savage has joined the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine as an associate professor of practice in aquatic animal medicine.
Dr. Savage earned a master’s degree in food animal medicine and a doctor of veterinary medicine degree at the University of the West Indies before earning a Ph.D. in aquatic animal medicine at the University of Florida.
David Sterling Brown is a new assistant professor of English at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. He was an assistant professor at Binghamton University in New York. His research areas include Shakespeare, race, gender, and the family.
Dr. Brown is a graduate of Trinity College. He earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at New York University.
Derek Young is a new assistant professor of mathematics at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. He had taught at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. His research is in combinatorial matrix theory.
Dr. Young holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Iowa State University.
Valtreasa Tolliver-Cook has been appointed chair of the department of social work at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. She is an associate professor in the department.
Dr. Tolliver-Cook began her tenure at Alcorn in 2011 as an adjunct professor and became a full-time tenure-track assistant professor in 2012. She was promoted to associate professor in 2017.
Austin R. Chalmers is the director of bands and a lecturer in the department of performing and fine arts at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. He joined the university in 2019 as the assistant director of bands. Earlier, he was a band director in the Cumberland County School system.
Chalmers is a graduate of North Carolina Central University, where he majored in music. He holds a master’s degree in music education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
