The New Dean of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Prairie View A&M University

Alton B. Johnson was named dean of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Prairie View A&M University in Texas. He will also serve as director of the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center and administrator of the Cooperative Extension Program at the university.

Dr. Johnson has been on the staff at Prairie View since October 2011. Previously, he served for 16 years as a faculty member and administrator at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. Most recently, he was an associate professor of agriculture and interim assistant dean of research in the School of Agriculture, Research, Extension, and Applied Sciences at Alcorn State.

A native of Liberia, Dr. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Liberia in Monrovia. He holds a master’s degree from Mississippi State University and a Ph.D. in agronomy with a concentration in soil physics from the University of Arkansas.
