Dennis Rome Chosen to Lead Indiana University East in Richmond

Dennis M. Rome will serve as chancellor of Indiana University East in Richmond, effective July 1.

Indiana University East enrolls nearly 3,000 undergraduate students and slightly more than 200 graduate students, according to the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Education. Blacks make up 6 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Rome currently serves as assistant to the president for community engagement and strategic partnerships at Northeastern Illinois University. Earlier, he was provost and vice president for academic affairs. Before joining the Northeastern Illinois executive team, Dr. Rome served as dean of the College of Letters and Sciences at Columbus State University in Georgia and as associate provost and associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

“I am honored to be joining the Indiana University East community at such a pivotal time,” Dr. Rome said. “The direction of the campus and the vision of President Pamela Whitten for Indiana University is galvanizing, and the regional campuses will contribute much to its success through solid student success strategies. I look forward to building strong community partnerships in eastern Indiana.”

Dr. Rome is a graduate of Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. He holds a master’s degree in sociology from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. from Washington State University.
