Colleges and Universities Announce the Appointments of Five Black Administrators

Jermaine Rolle was appointed director of athletics at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia. Since August 2020, he has served as deputy director of athletics and compliance at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Earlier, he was the associate director of athletics for compliance and student life at Minot State University in North Dakota.

A native of the Bahamas, Rolle is a graduate of the University of South Florida, where he majored in psychology. He holds a master’s degree in sport psychology from Barry University in Miami.

Rita L. Walters is the new vice president for development and alumni engagement at Montclair State University in New Jersey. Most recently, she served as vice president of development and alumni relations at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Earlier in her career, Walters was senior associate director of development for Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Walters holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey. She earned a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University.

Juan McGruder is the new senior vice president of institutional advancement at Meharry Medical College in Nashville. He was vice president of advancement at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. Earlier, Dr. McGruder served as the senior vice president and chief development officer for Junior Achievement of Georgia.

Dr. McGruder holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in counseling and human development from Clark Atlanta University. He earned a master’s degree in education from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in education and human development at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

Lucreta Tribune has been promoted to associate vice president for finance at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. She served as the director of accounting at the university since August 2022. Earlier, Tribune had a career spanning 14 years in state government finance and an additional five years as a state auditor.

Tribune earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Alcorn State University in 2000. She holds a master of professional accountancy degree from Jackson State University in Mississippi.

LaMarcus D. Howard is the new assistant vice chancellor for health and wellness at North Carolina Central University in Durham. He was the director of the Disability Resource Center and the Center for Adaptive Technology in Education lab at Eastern Michigan University.

Dr. Howard earned a bachelor’s in social work and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Central Michigan University. He holds a doctorate in higher education administration from Eastern Michigan University.
