Fisk University Names Its 15th President

Fisk University, the highly regarded historically Black college in Nashville, Tennessee, has chosen H. James Williams as its 15th president. He will assume his new duties on February 1, 2013.

Hazel R. O’Leary, the current president of Fisk, stated that “Dr. Williams is the right person for the job.  He exhibits high energy, intellect, and a proven ability for fundraising.  He is committed to Fisk and is well positioned to work successfully with the business and academic communities in Nashville and the nation.”

Dr. Williams is dean of the Seidman College of Business at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. He has taught at Georgetown University, Florida A&M University, and Texas Southern University.

A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Dr. Williams is a graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham. He holds an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, two law degrees from the Georgetown University Law Center, and a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Georgia.

  1. He seems to be well educated and I hope his money raising skills are commensurate to his education. Not sure what his age is but it seems that he has spent most of his life studying. He must be s smart man.

  2. The other candidate was equally competent and intelligent and I hope that these two individuals will come together for the betterment of Fisk University.

  3. Will Keep Dr. Williams in prayer, this step in his life I am sure has been ordered by God.

    God has always kept Fisk Covered in all of its seasons.

    Dr. Wms will be apart of God’s continued blessings for Fisk. Let us keep the faith and keep Dr. Wms in our prayers.
